When a match is sought for a patient in need of a stem cell transplant, the blood samples at Ezer Mizion's Registry are checked to determine compatibility between the patient and the potential donor's blood. Further testing reveals whether there is a complete match so that a stem cell transplant can indeed take place, thereby saving the sick person's life.
Initial lab testing for each blood sample costs £25. A personalised donor pool – named in honour or in memory of a loved one – is established by sponsoring a specific amount of blood samples. Upon its initial testing, every blood sample is given a tracking code and the donor pool sponsor is notified when a lifesaving transplant is carried out from their pool, sharing the exciting news that they have actively saved someone’s life.
